I contacted this seller about a vehicle he had advertised and specifically asked whether the car had any known issues. Due to concerns raised by previous reviews, I paid for an independent vehicle inspection before committing to the purchase.
During my own checks, I discovered that the vehicle had an outstanding safety recall. Given that the car had recently passed an MOT in May, I was concerned that this information was not disclosed to me during our conversations. I asked the seller why this had not been mentioned, but instead of addressing my concerns, he became defensive and blocked me.
As a woman buyer, I felt he assumed I would not question things or carry out proper checks — but I did, and I knew my rights. Consumers have protections under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, which prohibit traders from misleading customers by hiding important information that could affect a purchasing decision. Sellers must also not give false or misleading information about a vehicle’s condition or history.
Always carry out your own inspections, check recall information, and do not rely solely on what a seller tells you. My experience has left me with serious concerns about this seller’s transparency and how other buyers may be treated.
