My old mahogany desk (passed on to me by my father quite a long time ago) had been sitting by a window, exposed to strong sunlight, for many years and as a result its surface was heavily bleached. I finally decided to do something about it and searched online for someone who could restore it for me.
Ian's workshop is in a convenient location for me, just outside Southampton, and his reviews suggested that previous customers had been very satisfied with his work. He was very accommodating when I brought the desk to him, explained clearly what he proposed to do, and undertook to do the restoration work within a reasonable timeframe.
I particularly wanted to have it back in time to show some relatives who would be visiting. When I collected the desk shortly before their arrival, I was absolutely delighted with the result. Ian had worked on it painstakingly and produced a beautifully deep, rich finish. The desk now has pride of place in my hall, where it is admired by everyone who sees it.
Ian is clearly a serious and dedicated craftsman, for whom restoring furniture is much more than just a job, and I can't recommend him too highly.
