Visited the showroom and verbally agreed a price to install a power supply under the dash for a dash cam. Went on the appointed day and when the job was finished the price had risen by 25%. When I asked why, I was told that due to me buying a twin socket with a 8 amp fuse in the plug, they had to install a relay to protect me and the car if I tried to place more than 40 amps worth of load through the twin socket. When I stated that I felt that the relay does not offer this type of protection and that I am an electrician (not an auto electrician) the manager seemed very reluctant to give me further details and told me that the relay is buried in the dash and I would not be able to see it. Annoyed, I told him to remove the equipment as I was not prepared to pay the extra money. He then seemed more than keen remove it all, and very quickly. My wife was not even allowed to enter the workshop to see what was removed as she was not insured. Since then I have asked them to provide details of the parts that were installed so that I can verify its operation, strangely this information has not been given. I even offered to apologise if they were to convince me that this part was needed. The only response from them was that all questions posed were irrelevant as they had removed all of the equipment. I have replied asking the same questions without a reply. I have since had the job completed by another experienced auto electrician who could not think of why or what relay would be for in this scenario. It is my opinion that a relay was not fitted, but you must draw your own conclusions. I will be staying well clear!! I had to give 1 rating star just so that I could post this review otherwise it would not get that.
