Ian Wall Furniture Restoration offers a full restoration and repair service on all types of furniture, both antique and modern. He has fully equipped workshops in Allington Lane. He can offer french polishing, upholstery, repairs to woodwork, veneering, marquetry and carving. He has contacts who can also offer assistance with metal work, ceramics, clocks and books. Established 15 years. I contacted Ian regarding a small mahogany desk. This had stood in a very sunny position for many years and had bleached badly. It needed French Polishing to restore the lovely colour. However, we were expecting to move out of the area in about 4 weeks and I didn’t know if he could get it done in time. He not only completed the job in good time at a reasonable price, but did an excellent job. He has restored the beautiful rich colour and finish.
Thank you very much for a job well done. I would recommend Ian to restore your furniture.

Ian restored a chair that I inherited. It needed a complete overhaul and Ian did a fantastic job with it.

The finish is such high quality and was completed quickly and for a great price.

Ian Wall restored two Ercol Pine Rocking Chairs for me and he made an absolutely wonderful job of them, when he returned them I nearly cried as they looked so good. The woodgrain on the arms now shows up and I just sit in them stroking the arms. Ian is someone who is willing to go the extra mile and I would recommend him to anyone who wants a first class job done on a well loved piece of furniture'

I contacted Ian to ask about reupholstering 6 dining chairs. He was prompt to reply, provided me with a quote and a time frame. He completed the work in the time that he quoted and to the price. The chairs look as good asthey did when they were new and I am thrilled with the way they look.
I will use Ian again for other furniture that I have that needs repair.

Fantastic service from start to finish from Ian. Every step of the restoration job was discussed with us and clear explanations given of why things needed to happen. We could not be more delighted with the results of this work. The back of the chair which was bought by my grandparents around 100 years ago now looks as it would have done then and is once again a statement piece in the room. We will not hesitate to use Ian for any future restoration work and cannot recommend him highly enough.

I inherited an original Charles Eames chair from my father who died 50 years ago but it had not worn well and needed a lot of work to restore it to its former glory. Ian took the project on and spent some time with me to appreciate the chair's story and what it meant to me. He sourced some suitable leather and overhauled the wood structure and metal base, keeping the original upholstery to keep its shape and feel. When he showed me it took my breath away. It looks and even smells fabulous. He has managed to restore the original soul and presence of the chair to its proud yet modest character. It is quite simply a work of art and something that I know my father would have loved to see and he would have had total respect for Ian's craftsmanship and sensitivity for what is a classic piece of furniture. I can't thank Ian enough nor recommend him to you more highly.

Ian restored a pair of matching 1940s chests of drawers for us. They were badly in need of repair, with large cracks, broken handles and worn wood stain.

We are delighted with the finished result which is sympathetic to the original design but will clearly means that these last for another 80+ years! Ian was communicative throughout and his quote and invoice were detailed and clear.

We won’t hesitate to use Ian’s services again.

Ian has repaired and restored several pieces of antique furniture for us and has done a fantastic job giving them a new lease of life. Most of the furniture had historic damage with patched repairs. Ian has completed proper repairs and sympathetically restored the pieces to make them functional and beautiful again. One repair involved a shattered chair leg, which I thought was beyond repair, but now shows no sign of ever being damaged. Ian is personable and knowledgeable and I will definitely use his services again as and when required.

I took a spinning wheel with two large chips in the wheel to Ian for a repair.
The wheel was unusable given the damage but it is now as good as new.
The repair is brilliant and the service was fast and very reasonably priced.
I could not be happier with Ian's work.
Highly recomended.

I contacted Ian Wall with regard to restoring a 17th century chest of drawers which was in a poor state. It was important that the chest of drawers was not "over re-stored" as it is over 300 years old. Ian has now completed the work and I am delighted with the result. I highly recommend his services for any furniture restoration.

Having an heirloom but badly damaged Windsor Chair, I optimistically hoped to have it restored,
I searched and contacted several restorers offering repair work and renovation. None offered skills required.
I then found Ian Wall, a member of BAFRA - the association promotes skilled craftsmen and women that have the skills in sympathetic renovation and restoration.

Without request, Ian took it upon himself to search the history of my chair.
Upon collection of my beautiful restored Windsor Chair.
As a member of the Guild of Craftsmen. Ian was able to identify the one single maker of my chair and it can be aged to between a 9 year period in the 19th Century.

Ian exceeded my expectations and more.
He is the Only craftsman I would recommend.

If you have any furniture restoration work to be done, you must contact Ian Wall ! We cannot recommend highly enough his skill, expertise and professional advice, his workmanship and his kindly manner. Ian has totally transformed a very old family dining table and chairs, and reupholstered the chairs beautifully as well. He collected and delivered, and kindly fitted in with our timescales. Ian is a real craftsman and has restored our very old furniture to an amazing standard. We could not be more delighted, and would always use him again for similar projects. I discovered Ian by googling for a modern/contemporary furniture restorer one a Sunday afternoon. I emailed Ian to find out if he would be interested in painting a Rosedale Ducal dresser and a Ducal sideboard. I then emailed photos and was pleased to hear that he was. Ian emailed to confirm costs and dates for collecting the furniture as we live 7 miles from Windsor. Our furniture was returned last Thursday, 23 rd May ... I could not believe the transformation, it looked a new piece of furniture. Ian updated it with polished chrome knobs and hinges, we now have two stunning pieces of furniture in our dining room. We would not hesitate to recommend Ian to potential customers.

My old mahogany desk (passed on to me by my father quite a long time ago) had been sitting by a window, exposed to strong sunlight, for many years and as a result its surface was heavily bleached. I finally decided to do something about it and searched online for someone who could restore it for me.

Ian's workshop is in a convenient location for me, just outside Southampton, and his reviews suggested that previous customers had been very satisfied with his work. He was very accommodating when I brought the desk to him, explained clearly what he proposed to do, and undertook to do the restoration work within a reasonable timeframe.

I particularly wanted to have it back in time to show some relatives who would be visiting. When I collected the desk shortly before their arrival, I was absolutely delighted with the result. Ian had worked on it painstakingly and produced a beautifully deep, rich finish. The desk now has pride of place in my hall, where it is admired by everyone who sees it.

Ian is clearly a serious and dedicated craftsman, for whom restoring furniture is much more than just a job, and I can't recommend him too highly.

We asked Ian to help us with the repair of an antique chair that had broken one of its castors, plus if possible to see if he could increase the height of the legs since overall the chair was a bit too low anyway. Ian did a superb job and we are delighted. Apart from that he is an extremely nice man. What more can you ask.

Absolutely thrilled with my dining table and six chairs that has just been given a new lease of life by Ian Wall.
The table had a few white heat patches on, and was flaking in places.
The chairs, including two carvers, had numerous bumps and scrapes from 30 years of wear.
Ian arranged for collection of my furniture, cost which was included in the original quote, and my roll of fabric to re upholster the seats.

When it all returned six weeks later, I couldn't have been more impressed.
It all looks as good as new. The table top is smooth, and the chairs look brilliant.

If you have any furniture to be restored, I would suggest you contact Ian.
We actually never met, all communication was by email, and the whole process worked seemlessly.

Ian brought two wooden table top boxes back to life, replacing damaged locks and keys and split surfaces; shining up all the metal without damaging the wood, polishing the wood inside and out on one and re-lining the other with new paper.

Ian has just repaired and reupholstered a nursing chair for me. The back had been badly broken, but as it was a family heirloom I didn't want to part with it. Ian has done such a good job that you cannot tell it was broken at all, and it looks very smart with it's new upholstery. Even the Mother-In-law approves !

My father’s walnut bureau, dating from the 1950s has been restored by Ian. It looks beautiful with all the grain of the wood enhanced. Ian has transformed the piece. His care over detail and ease of communication made the experience a most positive one.

Ian recently restored a mid-seventies Danish dining table and chairs for us, doing an excellent job, starting with a table that had a number of stains, water marks and scratches and was a bit tired looking! It now looks like new, and unrecognisable from the sorry state it had been in, and Ian's judgement, skill and choice of lacquer used after he had stripped and sanded it were key to the excellent result he presented us with, along with the 8 matching dining chairs, similarly stripped, refinished and also reupholstered superbly with some great fabric we had sourced (and now much better padded and more comfortable than they were when new!). This was all done at a very reasonable price, with good discussion of what was needed, and was completed in a timely manner

The restoration has given us a great table to use and it lives on as reminder of my parents, from whom it was inherited recently

I can thoroughly recommend Ian to anyone needing furniture restoration, and will happily commission his services again

I inherited some bespoke furniture (chest and chow table) made in the Far East many years ago that was in a bad state of repair. Ian visited the house and gave me an estimate before the work started. The result has been to transform the chest and table, which now occupy a pride of place in our house. Ian is clearly passionate about what he does. I would recommend him to anyone for furniture restoration, whether fine furniture of just objects of sentimental value.

I took a small brass-bound antique oak box to Ian. It had been damaged in a house move a few years ago - a piece of it had fallen out and ben lost andit had been kicking around ever since - it looked a mess but it had sentimental value that I couldn;t bear to throw it out. Ian rstored it to really beautful condition so that it now has pride of plae in my sitting room. He is an old-fashioned craftsman of the type it is now very hard to find. I highly recommend hm.

Mr Wall's work is excellent. His brief was: take a large, victorian mahogany extending table that had been butchered and botched over the last 100 years, and bring it back to life. This involved installing a new sliding mechanism, making a new leaf, and french polishing the top.

Mr Wall discussed the options with me, was realistic about the potential, and we agreed a specification. His expert advice was sound and sensitively offered. He completed the job within the agreed timescale and his price was very good.

I was very impressed with the end product - the table looks superb, and the extension slides work smoothly, and is now a much better and more useful piece than before.

I can recommend Mr Wall as a first-rate craftsman who can be relied on to do an excellent job and who has a good customer manner. I will definitely use him again.

Ian did a beautiful job. I needed four bun feet for a solid 19th century mahogany campaign chest. I shipped from Brussels the four wooden plates for him to affix the feet. The feet and plates arrived the other day looking like they had always belonged together and to the chest. Everything is put back on now and looking absolutely wonderful. I strongly recommend him.

An antique chair that has been in the family for a century was in need of some repair and restoration. Ian previously restored a post-war dining table for us three years ago (2014) and we were so pleased with the result, we didn’t hesitate to use his services again. Ian is a skilled craftsman and both restorations have been to very high standards at reasonable prices. Ian has fully repaired the chair and finished it with a tinted lacquer, as requested. It has a fresh look yet maintains its antique appearance. We highly recommend Ian’s work. Thank you Ian.

Ian did an excellent job of restoring the bureau that belonged to my parents and I wanted to keep as a reminder of their lives. Before we gave him the job Ian explained what he would need to do and gave me a detailed written quote. He collected the bureau from our house and brought it back when finished. I am very, very pleased with the result. All in all, excellent service and workmanship. I would definitely recommend Ian.

Ian wall repaired a very delicate sewing basket damaged during a removal ( leg broken off and internal compartments dislodged). Repair almost impossible to see and internal compartments restored to be as good as new.

Standard of work is exceptional, work timely and good value; thoroughly recomended.

An antique fire screen was broken during my house move, wood completely split, pretty badly damaged. First person I went to said it couldn't be fixed however I took it to Ian who has repaired it beautifully, I can't tell that it's been repaired which is extra impressive because of the layers of different coloured wood. Very reasonably priced and completely really quickly. Highly recommend.

I came across Ian by a web search when seeking someone skilled to bring a rather vandalised but otherwise handsome Victorian chest of drawers. He did a great job replacing feet and handles in the style of the original (they'd been 'modernised' - badly), and French polishing to bring a 'problem' piece back to life. Since then I have sought his help to refurbish other items of furniture to a high standard and at very reasonable cost. Ian clearly has a love of his craft and if you have any piece of good furniture showing wear and tear, I do recommend you get his advice, particularly if you are tempted to throw it away - you may find that for a lot less than the cost of new you have a something that enhances your room after all.

Ian refurbished a kitchen table and 6 chairs for us in late 2015. He did a test on one chair so we were happy with the colour and also made arrangements to collect and deliver the items. His communication with customers is excellent, and he was always willing to help. The end result is superb - a 15+ year old dining set looks BRAND NEW and has new warmer and deeper tone. This was a gift when we bought our first house and Ian treated it with the same care and love that we have for it. Cannot recommend his work enough! A great craftsman who clearly loves what he does!

Ian did an excellent and very competitive job on restoring our Edwardian 3 piece suite. The woodwork was bleached in places and dull in others, with the decorative inlay falling out. The suite needed to be completely reupholstered. Ian advised that the previous upholstering was not up to suitable standard and went on to improve it greatly.

Ian produced the job in good time and was always friendly and approachable. Good advice was given and a great result achieved. Ian is very experienced with a high level of competency and works to high standards.

The suite will now give us great use over many years to come.

Thanks Ian, we will definitely come back to you again in the future with another project.

My mid-eighteenth-century mahogany bachelor's chest had been sadly mis -used and needed expert attention to bring it back to life. Ian Wall's outstanding professional skills enabled that to happen. He found some lovely veneers to replace the top, and cleaned off decades, if not centuries, of inappropriate polishing and finishing to reveal the true colour of the chest. It now has a lovely sheen, and is much admired daily. I would recommend any one to contact Ian for advice and excellence in furniture restoration.

We asked Ian to re-finish a very tired Sixties Scandi coffee table for us - a bit different from his usual line of work on pieces with more age on them - and were delighted with the result, which brought it right back to its original condition. It will give us many years of pleasure, and we have recommended Ian to a number of friends who have furniture in need of a facelift with total confidence.
We have several other pieces of the same vintage which are in a similar condition to the coffee table, or worse, and will be passing them over to Ian so that he can exercise his craft on them too in the next few months. There is no doubt in our minds that the results will be consistent with the first project. Ian is clearly a real craftsman who is capable of a range of restoration work well beyond what we have asked him to undertake, and it is a real pleasure to deal with him.

We asked Ian to restore a badly scratched oak dining table and when it came back it looked beautiful with a perfect colour match and no sign of where the scratches had been. He also fixed the dining chairs that had become very wobbly and are now back in use. We have since asked him to repair a scratched oak chest of drawers and are equally pleased with that. Ian is very professional in his work - he does what he says he will do, for the price that he quotes, in the time he says it will take. We would happily use his services again and recommend him to anyone wanting a high quality job done.

I have had several items of antique furniture restored by Mr Wall & am delighted with the results.

A true craftsman who is extremely professional & has undertaken some difficult projects with excellent results.
