The Flat Agency Southampton Reviews

Dishonest and corrupt.

Andrew Whitehead, main mover in this awful operation, has a series of failed directorships to his name.

I see that he has now set up in Southampton again, and I advise anyone who is tempted to do business with The Flat Agency to take the better option of ripping up their money and throwing it down the toilet. You'll get a better return than Whitehead will give you.

Whitehead appears to have no consience over retaining deposits, failing to pass on rental due and standing up to his own failings.
Avoid like the plague.

I have placed a claim via the small claim court against The Flat Agency and Michael Browns Ltd and their registered officers for unpaid rents and missing damage deposits. I have also reported the matter to the Insolvency Service Investigation and Enforcement Service. Additionally I have requested Company House suspend the companies request to be struck off the Company Register and have written to Trading Standards Southampton. Finally I have raised a complaint on this company via action for fraud. I would strongly advise anyone who has been effected by this company do likewise, all details for the relevant authorities are easily obtainable via the web site. You can also interrogate the Director and Company Secretary via Companies house and can view the number of companies registered and then liquidated, last count involved in 14 companies most of which have been liquidated after running up debts, also the Company Officers have family links with other companies such as The Flat Agency Southsea Limited and you can follow the trail through quite easily.

Please contact Sue McLoed at Southampton Trading Standards as they are putting together a case against him. The more people giving statements the stronger the case will be.
I wouldn't bother with small claims court as the debt is against the company which will be struck off soon if it hasn't already. Trading Standards are trying to bring a case to prosecute him. Fairly certain no one is getting any money back as he's spent it but we can make sure he's not able to become a director of another company and repeat this.

My tenants and I have received bad service too. Look on Companies House website and search The Flat Agency and Michael Browns Plc (or enter company registration 06858103). Click on the company name, then click on Filing History to read about its failure to honour payments against the £64,000 debt to HMRC, which has led to the voluntary agreement under the Insolvency Act being cancelled. Will HMRC will now pursue court proceedings for insolvency? Whitehead has again changed premises to another office but not informed Companies House, tenants or landlords of the new address, and the HMRC had to send court papers to his address in Rownhams eventually (again, on the Company House web pages under the company name click on Officers for these details). Just as worrying is that Whitehead directly holds tenants deposit money under the MyDeposits scheme. This changed at the end of 2015 when MyDeposits wrote to tenants and landlords saying it is no longer overseeing the money and that its protection ceases in early February 2016. Whitehead and his 2 remaining staff promised to re register deposits with another government scheme and send tenants the new deposit certificate - but this has not been done. His office refuses to reply to emails, letters and telephone calls about the deposits which is frustrating and worrying. As a last resort, my tenant and I are starting actions in the Small Claims Court (for the recovery of rent and deposit money) against this poorly managed company and its couldn't-care-less owner Andy Whitehead and the court papers will be served to his Rownhams address.

Absolutely attrocious company - we are owed a months rent from September and have removed our property from them (that did not stop them having a lock changed without permission!)
Now we are still awaiting the deposit. They have been reported to the Ombudsman over that.
Impossible to contact Whitehead, Luan (Accounts) never seems to be in. We were with them for a number of years and only in the first few months did we get payment on time.
Whitehead filed for CVA in September but did not complete the process of registration.
Whitehead has been, or is a Director of numerous companies in the rental field!
We would love to hear a response from him but quite sure that will not happen either.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
All sufferers with this company should band together

Terrible! Please be aware the owners also own The Flat Agency, please AVOID as well. Did not pay landlord on time, and stopped paying him altogether - he is now owed over £2000. I (the tenant) have not got my deposit back. I'm promised that someone from "accounts" will call me - they never do. They never return calls, and when you do get through (I called 20 times a day for 3 days and only got through on day 4) you are fobbed off with "accounts aren't in today" but they'll take a message. Never respond to emails. Having read around, this is a repeated theme. Don't expect any deposits back or your rent paid to the landlord. A disgrace.

Do not rent out your property with The Flat Agency/Michael Browns as I have had appalling service from this agency for nearly 3 years. Each time I hoped that things will improve but I have now transferred my business to another agency. They still owe me money which the tenant paid them months ago and I am now having to go to the Small Claims Court to get it back. I rent out two other flats with other agencies so know what good service looks like.
